Mermaid Dragon – Dream of a Buddhist Monk

This picture shows that the entire visible and experienced world is merely a projection of the mind, a transitory illusion (Maya), which appears and evolves within the mind of the monk who experiences it. Myriads of transient thoughts are like waves on the ocean's surface, but our indestructible and unchanging inner essence (Atman) is as deep and immeasurable as the ocean's abyss. Although the visible world is impermanent and illusory, it can be very appealing. This attractiveness is symbolised by the monk's dog, whose attention is distracted by a sudden crab. The monk dreams about Galle and Rumasala Rock on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka.
