Artwork Description

Kamalamma – Mother of Lotus

97.0 x 97.0 cm

This painting made from polymer clay symbolises the eternity of the established forms of the universe, the connection of the macrocosm (the large) with the microcosm (the small) and the harmony of individual and higher consciousness. Studying cosmic rhythms in the macrocosm (the universe) can help us understand the processes that take place in the microcosm (the human being). The movement of the solar and night celestial bodies corresponds with the movement of the solar and lunar energy along the subtle energy channels (nadi) of the human body. The sky goddess Nut is depicted in the mountain pose (Parvatanasana) and the earth god Geb is shown in Halasana (the Plough pose). The idea behind the painting comes from Kemetic yoga, an ancient Egyptian practice that focused on moving energy through the body to connect with one's higher self and the Divine Consciousness.
